Event type: Outing
Date: 30th July 2026
Group: Day Trips
Organiser:
Cost: £40 (coach and entrance, optional tours extra)
Booking: Note that booking is required.

The first coach outing that this u3a made was to Gilbert White's House in Selbourne, Sussex. That was nearly 40 years ago, so time for a return visit.

Gilbert White is considered by many to be Britain's first ecologist and he was a source of inspiration for Charles Darwin. As well as the house museum there are 25 acres of garden to explore.

The cost will be £40 for coach and entrance.

Garden Tour additional £5
With over twenty acres of ancient parkland and some five acres of restored gardens with a focus on 18th century planting, a garden tour is a fascinating way to learn about Gilbert White the Gardener and the plants and features described in his writings.

House Tour
Unfortunately they are not able to offer a house tour on the day of our visit. If you've already paid a refund of the £5 will be arranged.

There is an on site café and it's only a short walk to Selbourne village which has a church, museum and pub.
